My name is Danyelle Wright, Principal of Cottage Grove School serving grades 1-2. I am so proud to be a La Follette High School (LHS) Lancer, class of 2006. LHS is were I started my leadership journey as a student leader. I joined the student council, played basketball and soccer, and even joined the swim team with no prior swim experience (that story is for another time). LHS challenged me to look beyond being a student and a student athlete by exploring other student leadership opportunities in and outside of school. I became president of the student council, volunteered with community organizations, and throughout my tenure at LHS made some lifelong friendships.
One friend in particular has stuck by my side for over a decade and I am so proud to share his last name, call him my best friend, my better half, my spouse and life partner: Alonzo Wright. Alonzo and I met when I transferred to LHS during my junior year. We started dating after I completed my BA degree in IL and have been officially together for 8 years and share two children together, Demii and Dallis. Alonzo has encouraged me to be a better human, educator, leader, mother and wife. Truly, I wouldn't be as successful without his support, faithfulness, kindness, and compassion. Now that I have arrived at one of my destinations, I am eager to pay it forward and be that support for him as he has been for me over the past 8 years. Upon reflection, we never really knew that 15 years down the line we would be where we are today. I am so grateful for the relationships, skills and connections I made at LHS. Meeting my husband is just the cherry on the top!
