We’re thrilled to share that Donnel Thompson, a proud Madison West High School alumnus and former UW Badger football star, has been inducted into the UW Athletic Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2024. This remarkable achievement adds a new chapter to Donnel's storied career and reflects his profound impact on both the University of Wisconsin and the football world.
Donnel’s journey from selling concessions at Camp Randall to gracing the gridiron as a UW Badger under the guidance of Hall of Fame coach Barry Alvarez is nothing short of inspirational. His hard work, dedication, and relentless spirit have earned him this well-deserved recognition.
Kevin Cosgrove, the former UW defensive coordinator, fondly recalls Thompson’s intense dedication and personal commitment to excellence, noting how Thompson's "chip on the shoulder" and determination made a significant impact on the program.
Chris McIntosh, UW athletic director and Donnel's good friend, delivered the news of Thompson's Hall of Fame induction, which brought tears of joy and a deep sense of accomplishment to Thompson.
